Winner of December 150 Quiz: Nimra Nazar

Congratulations to Ms Nimra Nazar (Purchase Office) for scoring the highest number of points in the December 150 Quiz. Nimra is also an alumna (BS (Hons) Business 2012) which might explain her extensive knowledge of FCC trivia. Honorable mentions go to Mr Adeel Riaz (Advancement Office) and Mr Najam ul Sahar (Registar’s Office). We regret the delay in announcing the result, which was due to ALL the multiple choice options in Question 1o being wrong! After many recounts of the seating in E-025 (and our sympathies go out to returning officers in elections — we had no idea what a difficult task theirs was) we found out that the correct number of seats was 190. Only the first nine questions were therefore considered. Ms Nimra Nazar should contact the Communications Office to collect her prize of Rs 1,500 worth of book vouchers for Readings, donated by Assistant Professor Zeeshan Bhutta. Correct answers can be found on http://150.fccollege.edu.pk/the-150-quiz-december-2013/. Image courtesy...

Students Health Examination 1914

Dr G. L. Batra reported on November 15th, 1914, as follows:‒ I made a medical examination of 353 students of Forman Christian College, and the following remarks will be found interesting as it is the first medical examination made in any Lahore Arts College. There were two kinds of forms used – one to be filled in by the student giving particulars about his personal history and family, and the other to be filled in by myself. Age of the students examined varied from 16 to 23 years, except in the case of half a dozen students whose age varied from 23 to 29 years. WEIGHT ‒ varied from 88 to 160 lb. HEIGHT ‒ varied from 4 ft. 10 in. to 6 ft. 2 in. HEART ‒ there were only 4 cases who had slight trouble, but nothing serious. LUNGS ‒ there were 15 students who had weak chests. TEETH ‒ about 12 cases of bad teeth. EARS, THROAT AND NOSE ‒ only 6 defective organs. VISION ‒ there are 46 students who wear glasses and 76 who have below normal vision. The general physique of the whole was fairly good, but a good many require physical exercise and should not be honorary members of gymnastics which means avoiding exercise. There were 250 Hindus, 78 Mohammedans, and 25 Christians. 250 HINDUS ‒ of these 121 vegetarians and 129 non-vegetarians. 120 of them were married at ages varying from 10 to 22 years, 45 of the remaining were betrothed between the ages of 2 and 19 years. There are 21 out of 250 students who have confessed to smoking, but I am sure the numbers of smokers is more than that. 78 MOHAMMEDANS ‒ of these 21 were married at the ages varying from 13 to 21 years and 12 of the remaining are betrothed. There are 16 students who have confessed to smoking. 25 CHRISTIANS ‒ none of them married or betrothed. Only 7 have confessed to smoking. I would leave you to draw your own conclusions from the above facts....

Announcing the Sesquicentennial Quiz Series

Don’t worry, we have a hard time pronouncing Sesquicentennial too! Let’s just call it the 150 Quiz. Here’s a chance for you to find out how much you really know about FCC, and win a prize while you’re at it. Each month from December 2013 onwards, the Communications Office will set a quiz on some aspect of FCC. There will be 15 quizzes in all (yes, we will go into 2015) so with 10 questions each, that’s a question for each year of FCC’s existence. Each quiz will be multiple choice with only one correct answer. Easy, right? Here are the rules: RULES OF THE 150 QUIZ The 150 Quiz is open only to the FCC family: current students, alumni, faculty and staff. (Communications Office staff and our SWP volunteer, of course, are  NOT eligible.) To prove that you are part of the FCC family, in addition to your name, you will need to give one of the following in the quiz answer form: your roll number, if you are a current student your Formanite Alumni Association number, if you are an alum (please register with the Alumni office  if you don’t have an FAA number yet; an old roll number will not be accepted) your employee number if you are a faculty or staff member (check your pay slip if you don’t know it) The quiz will be conducted through this subdomain and can only be done online. To find the correct answers, you can ask any faculty or staff member, use the resources of the Ewing Memorial Library, check the FCC website and subdomains, check the FCC Societies website and subdomain, check the internet — in short, you can use any resource EXCEPT the Communications Office. The first correct answer form received will be declared the winner. If no one has all 10 answers correct, then the first answer form received with the highest number of correct answers will be the winner. Only one answer form per person will be accepted. If more than one is received, the earliest form will be considered valid. The decision of the Communications Office will be final. The quiz will be conducted through this subdomain and can only be done online. To find the correct answers, you can ask any faculty or staff member, use the resources of the Ewing Memorial Library, check the FCC website and subdomains, check the FCC Societies website and subdomain, check the internet — in short, you can use any resource EXCEPT the Communications Office. There will be only one prize each month. Each prize will have a monetary value of Rs 1,500 (we we like the number...
